Vectronic Aerospace GmbH, based in Germany are one the worlds leading companies offering custom designed solutions for the tracking and monitoring of wildlife.

Applied Satellite Technology Ltd have recently provided Vectronic Aerospace with 35 Iridium 9601 SBD transceivers which will be used to collect a series of GPS locations from wildlife, before transmitting the data via satellites to a Control Centre in Berlin, Germany.

The data, once decoded and converted will be forwarded onto Vectronic's customers via e-mail to provide vital information on projects designed to protect animals in their natural habitat.  The new collars, incorporating Iridium SBD technology, have been designed to provide scientists with a flexible solution to wildlife monitoring and studies in areas where GSM coverage is unreliable or non-existent.

The first three GPS transmitting collars have been fitted on brown bears in Greece, a red deer in Germany and a male lion in Kenya.  The project will be rolled out over a twelve month period with a further 20 collars being fitted to caribou's in Greenland in Spring 2008.

Vectronic Aerospace have plans to fit 10 collars on brown bears in Sweden and a further two lions, one in South Africa and the other in Botswana.

Once the collars have been fully tested Vectronic Aerospace will actively promote their new solution via their web site.
